My favourite Christmas cookie recipes are too many to list. But I did try for the sake of this blog. This time of year I have the itch to get in my kitchen. Something about Christmas music, a house that smells like melted dark chocolate, cinnamon, vanilla and baked goods adds a layer of bliss to my life. One of my favorite ways to serve my family and others this time of year is through baking. Making that perfect cookie to go with a hot cup of tea and giving it to my husband, neighbour or children is a simple act of service. The best part is I get a few myself.

As the holiday season gears up, homemakers everywhere pull out their festive aprons and bake cookies. Making literally dozens and dozens of cookies has begin a tradition in our house. I love making boxes for neighbors, family and friends who could use some holiday cheer. It has become a service project for our children to help Momma bake cookies, make home made Christmas cards and personally deliver them to as many people as possible.
Everything from snowball cookies to peanut butter blossoms, to spritz cookies I think we have baked it all. When I gear up for my holiday baking season I always stock up on trays, tins and boxes before I start. There is nothing worse then trying to figure out what to deliver 10 dozen cookies in when they are scattered on baking sheets in your kitchen. I also fill my cart with Christmas stickers, markers, and more for my kids to make homemade cards. I usually print off dozens of “greetings” to put in each card. Usually a Merry Christmas and a Luke 2 scripture from out family. This way the kids can just glue it on the inside of their cards if they cannot write yet.

When it comes to festive cookies I lean towards traditional recipes. Some of my favorite Christmas cookie recipes are a simple sugar cookie, short bread, red velvet cookies and classic gingerbread cookies. My kids love anything that uses cookie cutters and royal icing. I also thing rolling out dough is on their list of favorite things.
I like easy Christmas cookies that don’t need hard to find ingredients. If I want to make gingerbread men, I do not need to run to four different stores to make them. When buying my supplies for a Christmas cookie tray I want to make two stops: the grocery store for baking ingredients and the dollar store for trays, boxes and cookie tins.
